Before and After Fixed All on Four Dentures:
What Is The Process For Receiving Dentures?
The first step for receiving dentures is to have a consultation with Dr. Miles Santo in Red Bank. After he has determined that dentures are an appropriate treatment for you, he can take images and dental impressions of your mouth, and approve you for oral surgery.
Full dentures will require the extraction of any remaining teeth while partial dentures only require extraction of the unhealthy teeth that are to be replaced. Patients can expect to fully heal from oral surgery in 6-8 weeks.
During this time, your dental images and impression will be sent to a dental lab where your dentures will be manufactured. First, a set of test dentures are created. Usually, these dentures are made out of plastic or wax, although they are designed to look and feel just like permanent dentures. At your next appointment, Dr. Santo will place your dentures and check the comfort and fit of the test prosthetic. A partial denture may require the removal of some enamel and re-contouring of other teeth in order to achieve a proper fit. You may require a few fittings to achieve the best results for your test dentures.
Once the shape, size and color of your test dentures has been determined, your permanent set will be manufactured by the dental lab and sent to Santo Dental Group. You’ll come in to our Red Bank office for a final appointment to try on your permanent dentures. Dr. Santo will provide you with care instructions before you’re sent home with your brand-new smile.
We may schedule a brief follow-up appointment at our office a few weeks after you’ve received your permanent dentures. At this appointment, Dr. Santo will discuss the fit of your dentures, make any adjustments that may be necessary, and address any questions you may have about your new dental prosthetic.
What Are The Benefits Of Partial Dentures?
Partial dentures are a great option if you want to restore one or a few missing teeth. They are typically less expensive than other restorative treatments, like dental implants. The preparatory procedures also tend to be less invasive, although tooth extractions may be required.
What Are The Benefits Of Full Dentures?
If you’ve lost most or all of your natural teeth, or your natural teeth are unhealthy, full dentures may be an affordable and appropriate restorative option for you. You’ll need oral surgery to extract any remaining teeth, and with healing time and manufacturing of the denture, the process can typically take 4-6 months from start to finish. However, the level of quality that Santo Dental Group in Red Bank can provide ensures that patients leave our offices with comfortable, functional, and natural-looking dentures.
